Hola! It’s Bella and today we’re at the Musack Rock & Roll Carnival, which serves as one of Musack’s main fundraisers with an auction of rare items, art, food and beverage vendors, and of course, a lot of music! I have so much fun footage from this event! Included here are performances by The Aggrolites with Lynval Golding (The Specials), Sister Sister with Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill), The Go’s (Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey Gina Schock of The Go-Go’s) with Fred Armisen on Bass, plus Special Guests ~ Thomas Patrick Lennon, Margaret Cho, Kay Hanley, Lisa Loeb, and Jack Black (who graces us with his Ozzy Osbourne tribute)!
Musack was started in 2009 by Donick Cary, a writer and producer on hit shows like The Simpsons, Parks & Recreation, and New Girl, to raise money to fund music-based initiatives for suicide prevention for his hometown high school on Nantucket Island. Now it works to raise awareness and funds to provide guitars, drums, and support for music teachers in a variety of locales such as Compton, Appalachia, Haiti, Alaska, El Salvador, the Native American Southwest. One of the great causes supported by Musack is Peace Sisters, an organization working to give young women in Togo, West Africa an opportunity to overcome financial and structural barriers and attend school and college.
The annual Musack Rock & Roll Carnival is basically a mini-Coachella held in the heart of a historic neighborhood in Los Angeles where amazing musicians, educators, and special guests come together to help create a safe space for these incredibly talented kids to grow and thrive artistically.
